Congratulations Charlotte Bell, EngDoc Student

Congratulations to Charlotte Bell, EngDoc Student in the BBTC. Charlotte attended the Vitae Yorkshire and North East Hub Public Engagement Competition on April 26th and won a highly commended prize and the delegates choice prize. The prize was for her poster entitled 'Bug Busters' rapid methods of microbial detection and identification.

Well done Charlotte!

Official BBTC Launch - Huge Success!

The official BBTC launch took place on Tuesday 13th April 2010 at the Great North Museum. The keynote speakers were Dr Ian Shott CBE (founder and CEO of Excelsyn Ltd) and Prof Nigel Perry (CEO of the Centre for Process Innovation) and the event was attended by around fifty industrialists from across the UK. 

The aim of the launch was to set out the BBTC agenda as not only an interdisciplinary research centre, but also technology and training centre that is driven by stakeholder needs.

Local paper The Journal also attended the event, publishing an article about the BBTC in today's issue.

International Profile for EngD

The North England Inward Investment Agency is helping to raise the international profile of the BBTC, featuring the Centre in their newsletter which is aimed at North American companies considering UK/European expansion.

Fast, Flexible, Future Factory (F3 Factory)

Professors' Gary Montague and Elaine Martin have been awarded funding from the European Union under the 7th Framework Programme for a project contributing to the Fast, Flexible, Future Factory (F3 Factory). In the F3 project, Newcastle University are working with Astra Zeneca in the UK and other European partners to formulate modeling concepts that take into account uncertainty and risk for use during process development.

The overall EU project is led by Bayer Technology Services and has 25 partner organisations across Europe. A budget of €29.5M allows the coverage of a broad range of industrial products and is enabling the establishment of a demonstrator facility at Leverkusen in Germany.

New labs for BBTC
